JAMES BLUNT - BACK TO BEDLAM, album released in UK June 2005.
Within the last 6 months James Blunt has gone from playing small clubs in London to selling
out the Shepherd's Bush Empire as part of his current headlining UK tour.
His hugely accomplished debut album, "Back To Bedlam", produced by Tom Rothrock [Beck, Elliot Smith and Badly Drawn Boy]was released last Autumn to widespread critical acclaim and features Radio-2, A-listed single, "Wisemen" and new single, "You're Beautiful".
It is an album full of stories, vignettes and snatched moments, told in James's passionate and unique voice. Initially signed to Custard Records by the hugely successful producer/songwriter Linda Perry [Christina Aguilera, Pink, Courtney Love], the album was recorded in LA and is heavily influenced by the classic American 1970's singer/songwriter tradition.
In some ways everything you need to know about 28-year old James Blunt is there in "Back To Bedlam". Ranging from acoustic, stripped down and intimate songs through to band driven, energetic numbers, the album charts a man's journey through life, his experiences, relationships, hardships and aspirations. As a piece of propaganda, James Blunt’s album "Back To Bedlam" does more for changing the face of the British Army than a series of television adverts ever could. Swapping a rifle for a guitar, the former cavalryman’s ballad-heavy debut is a clearly aiming to win the battle for the public’s hearts and minds. The success of singles like "You’re Beautiful" and "No Bravery" (inspired by his time stationed in Bosnia) are both heartfelt and sensitive, the latter packing an additional emotional punch beyond the typical lovelorn ballads of his contemporaries like Damien Rice. But Blunt also sings with conviction about matters of the heart, and that’s the territory that most of "Back To Bedlam" visits, with songs of loss like "Goodbye My Lover", "So Long Jimmy" and "Billy". And throughout, the arrangements remain understated yet effective, thanks to the input of such heavyweight producers and songwriters like Linda Perry and Guy Chambers.
All of which prove that there’s a lot of depth to this modern, musical hero.

Wisemen
She said to me, "Go steady on me.Won't you tell me what the Wise Men said? When they came down from Heaven, Smoked nine 'til seven,All the shit that they could find,But they couldn't escape from you, Couldn't be free of you, And now they know there's no way out,And they're really sorry now for what they've done,They were three Wise Men just trying to have some fun." Look who's alone now, It's not me. It's not me. Those three Wise Men,They've got a semi by the sea. Got to ask yourself the question, Where are you now? Really sorry now,They weren't to know. They got caught up in your talent show, With you pernickety little bastards in your fancy dress,Who just judge each other and try to impress, But they couldn't escape from you, Couldn't be free of you,And now they know there's no way out,And they're really sorry now for what they've done,They were three Wise Men just trying to have some fun.Look who's alone now, It's not me. It's not me. Those three Wise Men, They've got a semi by the sea. Got to ask yourself the question, Where are you now?
